Inside Flotilla: Nathalie Camp, Sustainability Intern

Exploring sustainability, carbon accounting and life as an intern at Flotilla

Since joining Flotilla, Nathalie Camp has quickly become a valued part of the team, bringing curiosity, energy and a genuine passion for sustainability to everything she works on. As a Sustainability Intern, she’s been getting hands-on with client projects and building a deeper understanding of what sustainability looks like in practice, not just in theory.

With a background in geography and a long-standing interest in the natural world, Nathalie has always been drawn to work that can make a tangible contribution to climate and sustainable development goals. What motivates her most is understanding how businesses are responding to the climate challenge, particularly as regulation evolves, and how the transition to a low-carbon economy can become a real opportunity rather than just a requirement.

Since starting her internship, one of Nathalie’s biggest learnings has been gaining a deeper appreciation for the complexity of carbon accounting and why a thoughtful, tailored approach matters.

“Carbon accounting is anything but simple. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach, every company has completely unique challenges.”

That insight is reflected in the work Nathalie is involved in day to day. From supporting client accounts to working with carbon data, she’s been part of meaningful projects from the outset. She splits her time between the Harrogate and London offices, working closely with teams across the business. When she’s in London, she enjoys working closely with our Sustainability Consultants, Ben and Ruairí, shadowing their work and gaining exposure to how sustainability projects are delivered in practice.

Being trusted with real responsibility early on has helped her build confidence, particularly when it comes to presenting and communicating complex ideas.

“I was involved in client work and meaningful projects from the very start, which made it a great environment to build my presentation and communication skills.”

A key area Nathalie is especially interested in is how carbon data can be used to drive real change. Understanding where emissions come from is only the starting point; what matters is using those insights to design reduction strategies that genuinely work for each business.

“I’m especially excited about how businesses can turn carbon data into practical action, not just something that looks good on paper.”

Seeing that work translate into tangible outcomes has been one of the most rewarding parts of the role so far and reinforces why the detail really matters.

Alongside the work itself, team culture has played a big role in shaping Nathalie’s experience at Flotilla. From collaborative project work to time spent with colleagues across both offices, the environment has made it easy to learn, ask questions and feel part of the team.

“We’ve played padel together a few times, which has been really fun and a great way to get to know the team outside of work.”

As Nathalie continues her time at Flotilla, she’s keen to keep building confidence and developing both technical and communication skills.

“I’d love to deepen my knowledge of carbon accounting, but I’m also really focused on developing softer skills, especially presenting with confidence and communicating complex ideas clearly.”

Outside of the work itself, it’s the day-to-day moments that make the experience what it is. A supportive team, opportunities to get involved, and time spent learning from colleagues across the business all play their part. And, of course, a good start to the day never hurts.

“Sunshine, a good coffee and a morning walk. Or, in Harrogate, probably a Workwell members’ breakfast.”

We’re really glad to have Nathalie as part of the Flotilla team. Her thoughtfulness, enthusiasm and commitment to sustainability have already made a real impact, and we’re looking forward to seeing how she continues to grow during the rest of her internship.

“Nathalie has brought real energy and enthusiasm to the team since joining Flotilla. It’s been great to see her get involved across client work so quickly and learn sustainability in practice.”
