Flotilla attends the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures Event

Last week marked a significant milestone for the University of Leeds as the Priestley Centre for Climate Futures relaunched as the first of the University’s Futures Institutes. This highly anticipated event brought together a diverse group of individuals from various sectors, including business, policy, civil society, and the academic community. Attendees gathered to celebrate the impactful research, innovative solutions, and collaborative efforts that are driving climate action at local, national, and global levels. The atmosphere was charged with enthusiasm and a shared commitment to tackling the pressing challenges posed by climate change. We were truly honored to be invited to this important occasion.

Among those in attendance were Caroline Linford and Charlotte Hallowell from the Flotilla team, who had the unique opportunity to engage in an immersive virtual reality glacier experience. This interactive exhibit provided a compelling glimpse into the effects of climate change on glaciers and the environment. Additionally, attendees had the chance to view a model of the newly planted University Woodland, a project that reflects the University’s commitment to sustainability and ecological restoration. The Woodland not only serves as a vital green space for the campus community but also plays an essential role in promoting biodiversity and enhancing the natural environment.

As always, it was a great pleasure to reconnect with Piers Forster, a prominent figure in climate research and advocacy. His insights and dedication to advancing climate solutions continue to inspire those around him. Overall, the relaunch of the Priestley Centre signifies a pivotal step forward in the University of Leeds’ ongoing mission to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and drive impactful climate action. We look forward to seeing the exciting developments that will emerge from this initiative in the months and years to come.
